about
I am a (female) wizard rocker. I am Seven Potters.
My knee-jerk response to recent events (other than sadness/anger) is action. Many prominent wizard rockers have or had been huge inspirations to me, and are the reason I began making music at all.
I need to remember that the whole wizard rock community is still out there screaming along to “Save Ginny” in their cars on the way to work, listening to RiddleTM in the evening while they surf tumblr, strumming G, C, and D when they get a few spare moments… No matter how much it seemed like it at the time, wizard rock was never about the few, but the many- us.
Which is why in this case, at least for me, I look to the music. I can’t promise I, or anyone else, will immediately pick up our guitars again and pen albums the likes and rate of which appeared during the halcyon days of wrock, but I wanted to remind myself how much joy the community as a whole brought me (and still brings), and at the core of that is the music. This is what I can contribute.
JK Rowling once said that the books really asked a question: why fight? Why fight in the face of so much evil in the world? The answer, of course, is because there is goodness, love and friendship left, and it’s worth fighting for.
Wrock on, my friends.
(side note: I struggled with posting this because I don’t want to seem I am trying to capitalize on what happened somehow. This song is free… but this isn’t about listening to my music. It is about loving each other well. Go listen to Harry and the Potters instead, or Alas Earwax!, or How Airplanes Fly (some of my favorites). Better yet, write! I love to see new wrock songs hit the myspacez.)
(second side note: I know I am re-releasing this song, but that was an old practice recording. I felt compelled to put some heart into it, and it felt very fitting to how I feel. Also, making music is therapeutic for me.)
A gorgeous second album that holds up well to the high standard set by the first. The sweet love songs are back, along with an ode to Ron Weasley, a gorgeous metawrock song (and I'm not usually a big fan of metawrock), a couple of spiritual successors to songs from the debut album and one of my favourite DH Chapter 34 songs ever, among other gems. The fact that Avery is a songwriting genius cannot be understated. yourwizardrockresource
The moment I heard 'Forget the Girl' on a mix years ago, I fell in love, and I was so delighted to find more music by the same band. Avery's lyrics are a standout in the world of wizard rock, and I don't say this lightly. His grasp of characters and the heartfelt, poetic songwriting and delivery are second to none. I adore songs about canon relationships that give me new insights, and this album does that so well. yourwizardrockresource
The second EP from Northern Irish singer-songwriter Bea Stewart runs from gentle folk to pillowy pop ballads, all perfectly executed. Bandcamp New & Notable Apr 15, 2024
This is a wildly uneven, unpredictable collection. And that is as it should be. From spoken word to rap to singer/songwriter acoustic to hard rock, this has at least one song for everyone. John Gaunt
